<description>2 November 2005  As of 30 October , the Ministry of Health, Guinea has reported a total of 9 cases of acute jaundice syndrome suspected to be yellow fever. Preliminary confirmation of 6 cases was carried out by the National Reference Laboratory of Donka hospital. Samples from the 9 cases have been sent for final confirmation to the WHO Collaborating Centre for Yellow Fever, the Pasteur Institute at Dakar, Senegal.The cases occurred between 3 October - 23 October 2005   in the regions of Bok (3 cases), Kankan (2 cases), N'Zrkor (1 case), Faranah (1case) and Conakry city (2 cases).</description>

<description>3 November 2005  As of 31 October 2005  , WHO has received reports of two suspected deaths from yellow fever in the region of Kayes. It was possible to obtain laboratory confirmation of one of these cases, a boy of 3 years old. The tests were carried out at the national reference laboratory in Mali and then confirmed at the regional reference laboratory, the WHO Collaborating Centre for Yellow Fever, the Pasteur Institute, Dakar, Senegal.A vaccination campaign is ongoing in the districts of Bafoulab, Kadiolo, Kolondiba, Slingu and Yanfolila districts where 300,000 persons have been vaccinated to date. Plans are under way to extend the coverage to more districts in the region.</description>

The first newly confirmed case was a 19-year-old woman from Tangerang, near Jakarta, who developed symptoms on 19 October, was admitted to hospital on 26 October, and died on 28 October.The second case is her 8-year-old brother. He developed symptoms on 25 October and remains hospitalized in good condition.</description>

Since mid-December 2004  , Viet Nam has reported 65 cases, of which 22 were fatal.</description>

<description>10 November 2005  The Ministry of Health has notified WHO of a total of 21 suspected cases and 14 deaths in Kayes region, primarily affecting Bafoulab district, between 7-27 October. (see previous report). After initial tests at the national reference laboratory in Mali, 14 blood specimens taken from suspected caes were sent to the WHO Collaborating Centre for Yellow Fever, the Pasteur Institute, Dakar, Senegal. Four samples are positive for yellow fever.A team from the Ministry of Health, Mdecins sans Frontires and WHO is currently carrying out an epidemiological assessment in the affected area. The Ministry of Health is requesting an additional 4 millon doses of yellow fever vaccine to increase vaccination coverage in the surrounding districts.</description>

He remains in good condition.This is the fourth laboratory-confirmed case in Thailand this year. Since January 2004  , Thailand has reported 21 cases, of which 13 were fatal.</description>

<description>16 November 2005   As of 13 November, WHO has received reports of a total of 28 suspected cases and 14 deaths in Kayes region, primarily affecting Bafoulab district.The mass vaccination campaign is under way in Bafoulab district. The Ministry of Health requested an additional 2.2 million doses of yellow fever vaccine and auto-destruct syringes from the International Coordinating Group (ICG) on Vaccine Provision for Yellow fever Control and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI ) will provide the vaccine and syringes from their emergency stockpile. UNICEF is shipping the vaccine which will be used to target the population over 9 months in Bafoulabe and 6 other surrounding districts at high risk (Kangaba, Kati, Kayes, Kniba, Kita and Yanfolila).</description>

<description>21 November 2005   The Federal Ministry of Health reported to WHO an outbreak of yellow fever in the South Kordofan State. As of 16 November 2005  , 404 cases and 118 deaths were reported from different localities in South Kordofan State ( Abu Gebiha, Rashad, Dilling, Kadugli, Talodi). Of 38 blood samples sent to the reference laboratory, Naval Medical Research Unit, NAMRU 3 in Cairo, 13 were confirmed positive for yellow fever by PCR tests.On 14 November 2005  , the Federal Ministry of Health requested vaccines from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) emergency vaccine stockpile. The request has been reviewed and accepted by the International Coordinating Group and 1.7 million doses of yellow fever vaccine will be arriving in Sudan next week.</description>

<description>28 November 2005   As of 27 November, the Federal Ministry of Health reported to WHO a total of 530 cases, including 131 deaths, with a case fatality rate of 25.2%. These cases were reported from different localities in South Kordofan State (Abu Jibeha, Abyei, Dilling, Kadugli, Lagawa, Rashad and Talodi).The 1.7 million doses of yellow fever vaccine from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) emergency vaccine stockpile arrived in Sudan this week-end. After two days of training for national teams, a mass vaccination campaign will begin with support from Mdecins sans Frontires (France), MEDAIR, UNICEF and WHO. A Yellow Fever Outbreak Task Force consisting of these organizations working with the Federal Ministry of Health, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Sudanese Red Crescent Society and German Red Cross Society are coordinating the response.</description>

She was admitted to hospital on 23 November and died on 25 November.The field investigation found a history of exposure to sick poultry around her house. Testing of poultry and environmental samples has been undertaken by the Ministry of Agriculture. Close contacts of the woman are being monitored.</description>

This campaign achieved a vaccination coverage of 100% and resulted in the immunization of 26 114 persons.To limit the risk of transmission of the disease in this region, a vaccination campaign targeting a population of 290 000 persons in the remainder of Bouna district and the surrounding district of Bondoukou is planned in late December, with support from the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Department (ECHO).</description>

<description>17 April 2007 From 1 January to 8 April 2007, the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso reported 22 255 suspected cases including 1490 deaths (case-fatality rate, 7%). Thirty-four districts are currently over the epidemic threshold. Cerebrospinal fluid specimens from all affected areas have tested positive for Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A by latex test and/or culture.To date, vaccination campaigns have been completed in 15 districts in which 100% of the targeted population of 2.7 million people have been reached. This includes one million people in the capital, Ouagadougou. Vaccination campaigns are still on-going in a further 6 districts. The bivalent vaccine has been secured from The International Coordinating Group (ICG) on Vaccine Provision for Epidemic Meningitis Control, as well as from the security stockpiles held by the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso.</description>

<description>6 June 2007 The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has announced a new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. A 16-year-old female from Kendal district, Central Java province developed symptoms on 21 May, was hospitalized on 25 May and died in hospital on 29 May. Initial investigations into the source of her infection indicate exposure to dead poultry.Of the 99 cases confirmed to date in Indonesia, 79 have been fatal.</description>
